What is AOR UTI Cleanse Now With Cranberry?

If you’ve ever had a UTI, you’ll know the discomfort it can bring. Almost half of all women will experience at least one infection in their lives, and it is estimated that about 20% of women have recurring infections. When going to the doctor, the default is almost certain to be an antibiotic prescription. This usually compounds the problem, as antibiotics usually cause an imbalance of gut flora, allowing more bad bacteria and fungi to flourish, possibly only to make their way into the urinary tract again. Today we review UTI Cleanse Now With Cranberry by AOR as a possibly natural remedy for cystitis. AOR says calls its formulation unique, says the ingredients have been clinically researched and that the supplement has been designed to help fight off acute UTIs and prevent their recurrence.

UTIs are more common in women than men because the urethra is so close to the rectum. In most cases, the infection is due to the presence of e.coli which has made its way into the lower tract walls from the rectum, although the infection can also be due to any number of fungal infections and viruses. Blood in the urine indicates an upper tract infection and you should see a doctor immediately. Normal UTI symptoms are immense pressure to urinate often, discoloration of the urine, burning and abdominal pressure or pain.

Ingredients

  • Dried Cranberry juice (Vaccinium macrocarpon Aiton) (100 mg)
  • D-mannose (1000 mg)
  • Magnesium stearate
  • Sodium stearyl fumarate,
  • Sodium carboxymethylcellulose
  • Sricalcium phosphate
  • Rice syrup

For our purposes, we will discuss the dried cranberry juice and D-Mannose as the rest are fillers, binders and capsule preservatives. Studies have shown that although cranberry cannot rid you of UTIs completely, the proanthocyanidins in cranberries decrease UTI infections over time and ease cystitis symptoms. They prevent bacteria such as e.coli from clinging to the lower tract walls to some extent. But, that same research also showed that this was only true of dried cranberry fruits and was absent from the juice form. In any event, the meager amount of cranberry in this formula is probably not enough to make a real impact. Other formulations contain 300mg or higher, although admittedly in those cases cranberry is the main or only ingredient.

D-mannose on the other hand has now been proven to be more effective in healing UTIs than any other single ingredient. It latches on to the e.coli so that the e.coli clings to it, and not the bladder walls. More than 90% of D-mannose is washed out by the body in urine, so the e.coli then passes out with it. This formula contains double the recommended dose so it should be highly effective and likely able to treat even acute UTIs as AOR claims. However, we do not find the formulation unique, as there are a few cranberry and d-mannose combinations on the market.

Dosage

Take 1 or 2 tablets four to five times daily without food, or as specified by a qualified health care practitioner. Drink with water. Use for a minimum of 4 weeks. Our research shows that you should see a break in recurrence within 4 weeks but that your symptoms could improve in as little as 24 hours.

A serving size is one tablet so you are being asked to take up to 8 servings a day – this will impact the cost.

What Is The Cost?

A pack of 60 tablets and 120 tablets is available. If adhering to the recommended dosage you will go through 60 tablets in either 2 weeks or 1 week. We found the 120-count bottle to retail for $44.27 on Amazon. This is what it will cost you for a 2-week or 4-week supply, depending on whether you take 1 capsule or 2 four times a day.

Manufacturer’s Guarantee

We did not find any evidence of a guarantee or returns policy.

Our Final Review Of AOR UTI Cleanse Now With Cranberry

It seems safe to say that the product has indeed been formulated without side effects – the amount of cranberry is so small that it is likely to be safe even if you are on warfarin, a medication known to interact with cranberry. But this is a double-edged sword, as the cranberry amount may be too negligible to make a difference. Our concern is also that it is in juice format which has been proven ineffective by recent research. Another concern is the inclusion of magnesium stearate as a preservative as it does have known side effects, even though these are rare.

However, the product contains double the dose of d-mannose required to rid you of a UTI. D-mannose, studies show, is effective in 85% to 90% of cases. Will UTI Cleanse Now With Cranberry be effective? Yes, most likely. Are there better products out there? Yes, if you take into account the high cost of this supplement, and lack of a guarantee. We’d opt for a supplement with no preservatives, fillers or binders, that is more cost effective and is a risk-free purchase. A cranberry and d-mannose combination is great, but also look for one with higher cranberry amounts.
