What is BioNutrition CLA

This is a review of BioNutrition CLA 1500, one of the many Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) products currently available that contain this potent antioxidant and weight management substance. CLA supplementation is also said to improve the lean body fat ratio by decreasing fat deposits, especially around the midsection. It may also enhance muscle growth and protect against some diseases.

There is some research that appears to indicate that a diet low in CLA could be one of the reasons why people battle to shed excess weight. There are many types of linoleic acid. Some can be found in dairy products and meat, but it is also present in non-animal sources such as the Safflower plant. the CLA in this product is extracted from cold pressed extra virgin Safflower oil.

Ingredients

  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)                                   1500mg
  • Stearic                                                                                  4%
  • Oleic                                                                                     28%
  • Other fatty acids                                                               6%

Other ingredients:

Gelatin (bovine); vegetable glycerine, water and color

Dosage

The recommended dosage is 2 softgel capsules per serving. You should take one or two servings daily before meals, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

In other words, you can take up to 4 of the BioNutrition CLA capsules per day, giving you a maximum total intake of 3000mg of CLA daily.

What is the Cost?

You can purchase a container of 60 softgels directly from BioNutrition for $14.95. BioNutrition, however, does offer to pay all shipping charges within the USA on orders of $50 or more. On orders below that amount, you can expect to pay a standard shipping charge of $5.99.

We also noticed that BioNutrition CLA 1500 is available from several other online retail outlets at prices ranging from $10.80 to $23.12, so shop around for the best deal.

Manufacturer’s Guarantee

We searched the BioNutrition website but we were unable to find any reference to a guarantee on the BioNutrition CLA 1500 product. This is troublesome as it could mean that the manufacturer is less than confident about its product. After much searching of the BioNutrition website, we found the company’s general product returns policy which merely stated that any items ordered and returned will be subject to a 10% restocking fee. In addition, you will be billed for any shipping costs that may be incurred. There was no indication of how long you have to effect the return, nor whether they will accept returns on products that have been opened.

Our Final Review of BioNutrition CLA 1500

There are many CLA products available on the market at present. Like many of its competitors, this product contains CLA derived from the Safflower plant, which could indicate that it is an option for vegetarians and vegans. However, the capsule itself is made from bovine-derived gelatin and so should be avoided by those who are averse to consuming any animal products.

With 1500mg of the active CLA ingredient per serving, BioNutrition CLA 1500 falls somewhere in the middle of the potency scale for this type of supplement. One could, therefore, expect its pricing to be commensurate with this potency, but it isn’t. We found similar products with higher dosages of CLA at lower prices, so do shop around and compare not only prices but how much of the active ingredient you are getting for your money.
