What is Swanson D-Mannose?

Urinary Tract Infections or UTIs are one of the most common infections that are diagnosed in America. It is estimated to affect one in every two women and for 20% of women, UTIs will be recurring. It is believed that causes like poor hygiene, blocked urine flow, sexual intercourse, pregnancy, menopause, suppressed immune system and heavy use of antibiotics can all result in a UTI. Symptoms include burning and painful urination, cloudy urine and nausea, fever and vomiting. While antibiotics is a common treatment for an existing UTI, they cannot prevent future ones from occurring. This review is going to examine Swanson D-Mannose. This supplement is taken as a preventative measure to prevent future UTIs from occurring. It is a type of simple sugar that is related to glucose and is believed to nourish healthy flora and support healthy urinary tract health. This supplement comes in convenient-to-take capsules.

Ingredients

  • UT-PRO D-Mannose – 700 mg

Other Ingredients: Gelatin, Microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silica.

D-Mannose is believed to prevent UTIs from occurring because it targets the most common UTI causing bacteria, E.Coli. It is believed that D-Mannose attaches itself to E.Coli bacteria and causes them to stick to each instead of sticking to the urinary tract walls. This results in it being easier for the bacteria to be excreted in the urine.

Dosage

Swanson recommends taking one capsule twice daily. For maximum benefits, they recommend taking 2 capsules twice daily.

If you are under medical care, pregnant or nursing, they advise consulting with your doctor before taking this supplement.

What is the Cost?

This D-Mannose supplement is available on the manufacturer’s website for $12.99 for a 60 capsule bottle. The manufacturer does not offer any bulk purchasing packages or discounts.

Manufacturer’s Guarantee

Swanson offers a money-back guarantee on any of their products that were purchased within the year on opened or unopened bottles. If the return is valued over $500, they will deduct a 20% restocking fee.

Our Final Review of Swanson D-Mannose

This product seems to be a viable UTI prevention supplement. The manufacturer offers a decent money-back guarantee and the supplement comes in easy to swallow capsules. However, you will not be able to get complete coverage from all UTI causing bacteria by taking this supplement alone. D-Mannose only protects you from E.Coli which is estimated to cause 80% of UTIs, leaving you susceptible to other bacteria. If you are looking for complete protection from UTIs, you would need to take this supplement in conjunction with another supplement or product. For those experiencing recurring UTIs, D-Mannose can be taken potentially daily for a lifetime but Swanson does not offer any bulk purchasing packages or discounts. Considering that you would need to take this product in addition to another one and that the manufacturer does not offer any bulk purchasing options to make achieving protection from UTIs financially feasible, the costs of deriving benefits from D-Mannose could potentially be too expensive. We would rather inquire about brands that do offer bulk purchasing options and formulas that include full protection from UTI causing infections.
