What is Resveratrol BE?

We now review a concentrated night serum for dry, normal, combination and sensitive skin named Resveratrol BE. The manufacturer, SkinCeuticals, says its pure antioxidant-rich resveratrol will reveal radiance and firmness you can clearly see. It neutralizes environmental free radicals and supports the skin’s natural antioxidant abilities to defend itself. It decreases the signs of aging so you have a denser, supple, firmer skin. As with anything, the proof is in the pudding. In this case, the ‘pudding’ is the results, and the results will be determined by the ingredients. So, we turn our attention to those ingredients.

Ingredients

These are the key ingredients:

  • 1% resveratrol
  • 0.5% baicalin
  • 1% alpha tocopherol (vitamin E)

Resveratrol comes from the knotweed plant. The formula the manufacturer uses here is a patented one, Resveratrol B E. It combines a concentration of 1% pure, stable resveratrol, enhanced with 0.5% baicalin and 1% pure vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) to optimize anti-aging antioxidant performance. The more stable the compounds, the better the sink in and dispense their properties. As a patented antioxidant cocktail, it neutralizes the threat of free radicals, helping skin to regenerate using its one antioxidant defenses, and reveals visible radiance and firmness. Baicalin is a broad-spectrum plant antioxidant.

Patents are exactly what we like to see because they involve the most intense form in the best combinations of clinically approved ingredients to yield maximum results. But given the price you’ll pay for this product, in particular, we expected to see more patented formulas included. In any event, you simply won’t get all the results you are seeking based on aggressive antioxidant activity. What we prefer to see is patents that act on a number of flaws – at least five patented ingredients, six if possible. Here we can cite other patents such as PhytoCellTec Alp Rose (using plant stem cells to increase skin barrier function and boost regeneration), Pepha Tight for instant firming and Stay-C 50 for a stable form of vitamin C delivering superior antioxidant results. We cite them as these three patented formulas can all be found in one-night serum, targeting a range of issues as is evident – and the formula we are talking about contains at least another three patents as well. Additionally, we are also missing some botanical heavy hitters in this ingredient mix such as the dermatologically lauded wheat extract and Electric Daisy which unfortunately does detract from efficacy.

How To Use

The serum comes in a pump bottle. Use it in the evening. After cleansing, apply one to two pumps to your dry face. We would have desired more clarity such as whether you should also tone your skin first. Should you massage in the oil or just let it self-sink in? We would have preferred clarity. The manufacturer says you should follow up with one of its corrective products but what if you don’t have these? Can you use a good moisturizer instead? We are not advised in full by the manufacturer and what you follow up with can undo certain effects.

What Is The Cost?

A 1 oz bottle sells for $153.00 on the product website. This is rather expensive and no bundled package discounts are offered, which we feel should have been.

Manufacturer’s Guarantee

A lot of information is provided by how to go about effecting a return or the existence of a money back guarantee is not among the information disclosed. This seeming lack of a guarantee or returns policy is highly concerning because the night serum retails at a high price.

Our Final Review of Resveratrol BE

We like that the product is cruelty-free and features a patented form of resveratrol. There are clinical studies and research on a high level that informs product formulation, and it shows. That said, the full range of skin benefits cannot be derived from this antioxidant patent alone. Manufacturers who take skin science seriously know this and the best ones with the strongest products we’ve come across include five or six patents in their market offerings. Besides this, key ingredients such as wheat extract are missing, which takes away from how potent the formula is. Finally, the lack of a guarantee is not a consumer-friendly policy, so we, unfortunately, we absolutely hesitate to recommend this product. In the same way that a good guarantee can’t make up for a bad product, a formula which looks good (but is still lacking as explained) doesn’t compensate for the fact that the consumer is expected to engage in a high-risk purchase. All in all, there are too many factors against seeing this as a high-value product that is worth the money you are paying for it.
