What Is Clear Day Serum?

Clear Day describes its serum gel as botanical-based hydration and nourishment for all skin types including acne-prone and sensitive skin. One of the things Clear Days says its serum is designed to do, is to clear breakouts. It is also packed with antibacterial and calming properties, with the star ingredients being Organic Aloe and Lemon Balm. It also balances skin complexion, tightens pores and fights infections. The manufacturer claims a lot about its serum, so we will analyze the composition in this review against the research on not only which ingredients and compounds work, but which ones work with maximum effect.

Ingredients

The manufacturer foregrounds the following ingredients:

  • Lemon Balm
  • Borage Oil
  • Sea Buckthorn Oil
  • Aloe Vera

Lemon Balm is calming, soothing, healing and also an astringent, so it tightens pores and firms skin. It is also full of anti-aging flavonoids. Aloe Vera is one of the most soothing and healing botanicals, and also rich with antioxidants. Both of these ingredients will give you much needed Vitamin C and E as well which besides fighting aging, stimulate collagen production. The synergy of Buckthorn Oil and Borage Oil is further meant to enrich, nourish and soothe the skin. We agree with the manufacturer that these oils are high in anti inflammatories, meaning they won’t irritate sensitive skin.

Looking at this formula, it may soothe the skin, but doesn’t go far enough to aggressively fight aging. Unlike class-leading natural beauty product makers we have researched, there isn’t a single patented, clinically proven ingredient in this formula. Take, for example, the patent Argireline NP. This is a peptide now named acetyl hexapeptide-8 that inhibits SNARE complex formation and catecholamine release, reducing the extent of wrinkles. In clinical studies of twice-a-day use, the depth and extent of eye wrinkles, for example, decreased up to 17% after 15 days. After 30 days of treatment, it was down by 27%. This is what a safe, natural, aggressive, well researched and clinically proven serum ingredient looks like, and unfortunately it is wholly missing in Clear Day Serum.

How To Use

Glow Essentials provides clear directions. Apply Clear Day Serum in a gentle, circular motion to your face and neck after cleansing and toning. Avoid your eye area. This serum is light enough to be worn under makeup if needed. This is important to know and factor in as you don’t want a day serum leaving an oily residue, especially as you have to follow it up with a moisturizer.

What Is The Cost?

A 1 oz pump bottle retails for $39.99. There are no discounts for multiple purchases of this serum. A serum sample exists but there is no indication of the price. The serum and other individual products amount to less if you buy it as part of a package deal which includes a cleanser, toner and more. This is of course a strategy to lock you into brand products. It says a lot when a manufacturer is able to offer single-product discounts when you buy several of a particular item, without locking you in to other brand products as well.

Manufacturer’s Guarantee

If you’re unhappy about the product, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund or exchange, less shipping. It is not clear if you can return partially used products. It falls short of the minimum 60-day guarantee offered by more confident natural beauty product makers.

Our Final Review of Clear Day

Glow Essentials provides you with clear instructions for using its serum. It is antioxidant-, anti-inflammatory- and astringent-dense. It is cruelty-free, paraben-free and a host of other ‘free froms’ also apply, in a positive sense. So it is curious that in the same vein, the manufacturer cannot assert that it is GMP certified. Along with this, the serum simply does not work hard enough in the anti-aging department. Soothing, balancing and rejuvenating the skin are a good start (and even then there are other botanicals proven to work better, which we would have expected to see) but you need a hard-hitting patented ingredient or two whose mission it is to actively undo wrinkles in the same way, as for example, the patented Argireline NP. In fact, we’ve seen manufacturers who have done research to such an extent that they include no fewer than five patented, trialed and approve ingredients for maximum impact. If it is a truly hardworking natural serum you’re after, this isn’t it.
